Welcome to.. Don't forget to let me know that you came, nudge me! :) If - Taeyeon.mp3 - taeyeon Thursday, April 3
I'm sure everyone missed me and my anyway so what's up with dian? I am STRESSED! these exams and assignments are squeezing my brain juice out (not that my brain has juice) to the extent that I have diminishing numbers of brain cells left! and it's 3 weeks before the study week exam which means... ALL SEMESTER LONG PROJECTS ARE DUE IN 3WEEKS. fuck.~ okay so who cares about my rants about my miserable life right? SO, Georgetown has this Georgetown University Grilling Society (GUGS, read: jugs) which has been providing the Hoyas with yummy freshly grilled burgers at most outdoor events. At the end of April, they are holding this event called "Grills gone wild". facebook event here In conjunction with the grilling week, they created a T-shirt which read "GUGS Grade A, Size D" with Georgetown's name at the back. Theeen, The United Feminists (yes my school has a United-Feminists-club, woah!) saw this T-shirt as "offensive, inappropriate and distasteful" to the females. According to them, "The sexual innuendo that is the marketing strategy for this event is not hard for any of us to see. Women are being portrayed as sexual objects by a respected campus organization. The relation to women as meat is blunt and abhorrent" and that "By referring to women as meat in a sexually explicit manner, the Grilling Society is actively perpetuating a socially hostile environment for women at Georgetown." facebook group here. They also explained that the whole GUGS(jugs can also mean huge boobs) + Grills gone wild (some show where all the huge-cup-blondies showed off their assets) + the T-shirt slogan = unacceptable. Of course, the GUGS people was surprised that their attempt to be creative marketers was deemed offensive by the female population. Hence, they created another group in response to the feminists'. facebook group here. They claimed that "The t-shirts have nothing to do with the event, and if they are referring to something's size, well its a...HAMBURGER." and even told the feminists that "There are far greater issues at home and abroad facing women, and perhaps attention should be not towards GUGS, but rather the countless countries around the world that fail to recognize women's rights. *cough* the Middle East and Asia *cough*". Both groups' wall are full with long comments and remarks from both sides. Unfortunately some people just can't contain their anger and started swearing and sprouting offensive opinion which worsen the situation. SOOO, who's gonna win? IDK~ Honestly, I really can't be bothered with the whole thing although of course I don't deem the feminists for standing up for our rights. But I see the point that there are other more pressing issues that we might be able to help instead of arguing with the burger-grillers. Well, I'll keep my 2cents aside for the moment and keep you updated on the news :) ![]() header by: sealedcards
