8:48 PM went to watch my SECOND BROADWAY show last Tuesday. I found the facebook event by chance and it was titled "Trips to see Hairspray" hosted by Georgetown Program Board. I have been eye-ing at Hairspray musical since I was in NY! The reviews were good and it looked like a lot of fun! So i was like YAYYY GREAT! then I immediately email-ed the girl in charge only to receive a reply saying that "So sorry we are out of ticket right now but I can put you on waiting list".

That was exactly my reaction when I read the email! So I replied eagerly saying that I would love to be on the waitlist. So yay people say the patients get their payback and so did I. I got two tickets to see the show!

So here comes the day we have been waiting for! I was excited for the show despite the 2 assignments due the next day and 3 projects due the day after. LOL.
Gathered at the front gates at 645pm and apparently they chartered a BUS for us! wow! I thought I had to wear those heels all the way to the theatre hahaha :)
It's called Warner Theater and it's a huuuuuuuugeass theatre. aloooot bigger then the one I went on Broadway!! LOL. and being a cheapo student that we are, we obviously bought the cheapest seats (hence the cheap price) thus, we were seated aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall the way at the back balcony. It was called "upper balcony".

couldn't see anything on stage laaaa! which idiot design the theatre until so big cannot even see one! siannn.. so we all creeped down the seats and tried to find unoccupied seats at somewhere better.. Unfortunately it was kinda full that night that my friends got chased away by the ushers when the 'rightful' owner of that seat came lol. paiseh sia~
(nope i didn't get chased away due to my smart choice of empty seats muahahaha)

So, a little bit about the show:





Synopsis:

HAIRSPRAY opens in June 1962, as Tracy Turnblad wakes up ready for another day. After school, she and her best friend, Penny Pingleton, watch "The Corny Collins Show." While Tracy and Penny sigh over handsome Link Larkin, Tracy 's mother, Edna, slaves away at her ironing board. Penny's mother, Prudy Pingleton, expresses her disapproval of teenagers dancing to "colored music." Edna points out that it "ain't colored. The TV's black and white." On air, Corny announces auditions for an opening on the show, as well as the national broadcast of the upcoming "Miss Teenage HAIRSPRAY 1962" contest. Tracy wants to audition but Edna is skeptical, fearing Tracy 's size will lead to rejection. Wilbur, her father, encourages Tracy to follow her dream. Tracy and Penny go to the audition.

At school, Tracy 's bouffant hairdo lands her in detention, where she befriends Seaweed J. Stubbs, the son of Motormouth Maybelle (the host of the once-a-month "Negro Day" on "The Corny Collins Show"). At a school dance, Tracy catches Corny's eye while doing steps she learned from Seaweed.

Seaweed invites Tracy , Link and Penny to his mother's record shop. Motormouth Maybelle welcomes them warmly; Tracy wonders why they can't all dance together on the show and plans to lead a protest during "Mother-Daughter Day." The demonstration turns into a riot; the police arrive and drag Tracy and all the women off to jail.

Everyone is released on bail, except Tracy, who is moved to solitary confinement. Wilbur comforts a downcast Edna. Meanwhile, Link realizes his love for Tracy and breaks her out of jail (using an improvised blowtorch - a lighter and a can of hairspray), and Seaweed rescues Penny from her mother's clutches. The four flee to Motormouth's record shop. She reminds them that the fight against injustice is never-ending.

OKOK I know that was a mouthful and probably everyone's gonna skip the synopsis HAHA :)
Anywhoo, it was AMAZING! I absolutely loved the show everything was great but........
the sound system was way too loud imo. So loud that when they sing high-pitched it was painful to the ears (yea they still have excellent voice but still when u amplify that by 97821635712x it'll be torturous).
So I went back, still mesmerized by the show and hypnotized by the songs, I decided to do some "research" on the show and found out that....

THEY PRODUCED IT FOR CINEMA! jeez I am so outcast-ed from the Hollywood side of the world.. and it was showing LAST SUMMER -____-"'
The biggest shock came when I read over the casts name and it was:

Michelle Pfeiffer
Christopher Walken
AMANDA BYNES
James Marsden
Queen Latifah
ZAC EFRON

etc.

WOW I never knew Amanda Bynes is doing Musicals! Zac Efron certainly has made an outstanding debut on High School Musical and I bet he's eff-ing rich now..
